| Prescription | A written or electronic authorisation from a clinician allowing a pharmacist to dispense a specific medication | "Mr. Davies handed over his prescription at the pharmacy counter." |
| Medication | A substance used to treat, prevent, or manage a disease or condition | "The pharmacist checked that the medication matched the prescription exactly." |
| Dosage instructions | The pharmacist's directions for taking a medication: dose, frequency, duration, and any special conditions | "She explained the dosage instructions carefully before handing over the bag." |
| Side effects | Unwanted reactions that a medication may cause in addition to its intended effect | "One of the side effects of this medication is mild drowsiness." |
| Contraindication | A specific condition or factor that makes a medication potentially harmful and therefore inadvisable | "Penicillin is a contraindication for patients with a known allergy to it." |
| Over-the-counter | Medication available to buy directly at a pharmacy without a prescription | "You can get ibuprofen over-the-counter — no prescription needed." |
| Generic medication | A non-branded version of a medication containing the same active ingredient as the original at lower cost | "Would you like the generic medication? It works exactly the same way." |
| Repeat prescription | An authorisation allowing a patient to receive the same medication again without a new consultation | "Your GP can set up a repeat prescription so you don't need to come back each time." |
| Allergy | An adverse reaction of the body to a specific substance — recall from Episode 1 in a new pharmacy context | "The pharmacist flagged the penicillin allergy before dispensing." |
| Follow-up | A subsequent appointment to monitor a patient's progress — recall from Episode 1, reinforced here | "Don't forget your follow-up with Dr. Bennett in two weeks." |
