| Vitals | Core body measurements: BP, temp, pulse | Let me take your vitals first. |
| Blood pressure | Force of blood against artery walls | Your blood pressure is slightly elevated. |
| Allergy | Adverse reaction to a substance | Do you have any known allergies? |
| Symptoms | Signs indicating a condition | How long have you had these symptoms? |
| Prescription | Written order for medication | I'll write you a prescription. |
| Follow-up | Subsequent appointment to monitor progress | Let's schedule a follow-up in two weeks. |
| Over-the-counter | Medication available without a prescription | You can get that over-the-counter at any pharmacy. |
| Referral | Sending a patient to a specialist | I'm going to write you a referral to a cardiologist. |
